Entertaiment is an experience that provides enjoyment, amusement, or diversion. Entertainment can take the form of an individual who chooses and plays a pre-recorded product; a restaurant experience; a public performance involving music, dance, or drama; an exhibition or fair; a party for one or two; or a full-scale spectacle intended for thousands or more. While primarily associated with amusement, many forms of entertainment may have a serious purpose and/or aesthetic impact. The word entertainment derives from the Latin intertenere, the prefix of which means “inside,” and the suffix ten, from the Indo-European root ten. See also edification, enlightenment, and education.
