Entertaiment is the process of bringing joy or pleasure to a person, group or audience. It is generally seen as having an amusing or lighthearted character, although some forms may have a more serious intention such as a religious festival or satire. The word originates from the Medieval Latin intertenere, based on the Indo-European root ten. Entertainment can take many forms: from a personal choice of media for consumption, to a banquet adapted for two; from a one-to-one performance to a large scale spectacle. It encompasses a wide variety of activities, is understood objectively, communicates between text and audience, offers external stimulus, provides pleasure to the consumer and requires an audience’s passive participation.
