Entertaiment is a subject matter of immense complexity. It encompasses a vast range of entertainment activities, ranging from the choice of a private amusement for one person from the now enormous array of pre-recorded entertainment products; to a banquet adapted for two; to an event designed for thousands; to an artistic work intended for global distribution. It is a topic that has a great potential for creative remix. It also tends to focus on themes that the human mind was evolved to deeply react to, such as social backstabbing, murders and other things that happen in a social world. The word entertain derives from the Medieval Latin intertenere, derived from the Indo-European root ten, meaning “stretch.” This is a reprint article from Fall 2011 T E News.
