What is Entertaiment?

The act of being entertained. Oliver and Barstsch (2010) define entertainment as an activity understood objectively, involving communication between text and audience from an external stimulus that offers pleasure and occurs in a passive form. Whether it’s laughing at a comedy show, reading a gripping murder mystery, playing a team sport, solving a puzzle, or engaging in strategic video games, entertainment allows us to experience a range of emotions in a safe setting. It can even help us stay agile and stimulated, preventing mental sluggishness.
